Cold Email List Building Playbook
Learn how to build high-quality cold email lists using Scrapine. From defining your ICP to verifying emails, this playbook covers every step of list creation.
Overview
A cold email campaign is only as good as the list behind it. This playbook covers how to build targeted, verified email lists using Scrapine that maximize deliverability and reply rates. Follow these steps to create lists that convert.
Step 1: Define Your Ideal Customer Profile
Before scraping a single contact, document your ICP precisely. Specify target job titles, seniority levels, company size ranges, industries, geographies, and technology stacks. The more specific your ICP, the better your list quality. Write down both your primary persona and any secondary personas you want to target.
Step 2: Identify Data Sources
Choose which sources Scrapine should scrape based on where your target personas are most visible. LinkedIn works well for most B2B roles. Company websites and team pages capture leadership contacts. Industry directories cover niche verticals. Conference speaker lists surface thought leaders. Select two to three sources for the best coverage.
Step 3: Configure Scrapine Extraction
Set up Scrapine to extract contacts from your chosen sources using your ICP filters. Define extraction rules for each source, specifying which fields to capture and what filtering criteria to apply. Schedule extractions to run regularly so your list grows continuously.
Step 4: Verify Every Email
Never send to unverified emails. Use Scrapine’s built-in email verification to validate every address before it enters your list. Remove invalid addresses, flag risky ones for manual review, and keep only emails that pass verification with high confidence. Target a verified rate above 95 percent for every list.
Step 5: Segment Your List
Break your master list into segments based on persona, company size, industry, or any other relevant attribute. Each segment should receive its own tailored messaging. Segments of 200 to 500 contacts are ideal for testing messaging before scaling. Label segments clearly for tracking purposes.
Step 6: Clean and Deduplicate
Before sending, run a final deduplication pass against your CRM to avoid contacting existing customers or active prospects. Remove personal email addresses, generic info@ addresses, and any contacts that opted out previously. A clean list protects your sender reputation and improves results.
Maintenance
Rebuild or refresh your lists every 30 days. Contact data decays at roughly 2 to 3 percent per month, so lists older than 90 days will have unacceptable bounce rates. Use Scrapine’s scheduled enrichment to keep existing lists fresh automatically.
